The dominating appearance comes from the layered sandstone, exposed to strong wind and water erosion. The distinct range offers hiking, sightseeing, camping and other things to do in Cape Town.
The sacred mountain has a 3km long stretch of flat top. 2 miles in Imperial measurements. The long northern face has a stark contrast with the plateau broken into smaller valleys and mountains. The detached Devils Peak mountain protrudes from the side of of the nature reserve, on the other side Lion’s Head Mountain, an iconic national peak stands at 669 meters. 2195 feet. Downwards the slope of Lion’s Head leads to Signal Hill, known as Lion’s Rump. Part of the same range as Table Mountain. The 12 Apostles frame the mountain to the Atlantic Coast, on-route to Cape Point and Hout Bay.
The climate exists exclusive to the geography of the formation. A cloth-like appearance, the Table Cloth, forms on the peak. Responsible for clean water and lush vegetation, clouds condense rapidly when the wind comes from the South East. In the rainfall, rain clouds collected into five reservoirs supplies Cape Town with drinkable water. The measurement of annual hydration occurs between 60 inches and 22 inches, upper range 1 525 millimeters. Local vegetation in abundance includes Disa Orchids, over 200 species of mountain Dassies, Silver Trees and Goats. 350 routes assist hikers to the top, and a Cable Car built in 1929 assists tourists up to the top in under 5 minutes. Notable points of interest on Tafelberg include Maclear’s Beacon at 3563 feet.
